I don't care about all the "speed" gained if any at all with CHOST/CFLAGS I just want it to install and go that is why I use packages and rest is compiled ports. (though if you want Java installed it took like 14 hours to compile from ports which kinda suck) Not saying OpenBSD is perfect in there pkg manager, but it works for me. And pkg management has been much more stable with OpenBSD over Gentoo. Also not everything is the lastest and greatest version of a software, usually newest as of release and updates for security. I know a lot of this wouldn't matter (compiling from source) as much if I had a faster desktop machine (currently use a Dual 700Mhz/1GB RAM as my desktop).

webhosting companies vs colo and bandwidth/transfer volume After looking at the high cost of bandwidth and monthly transfer volume I have got to know... How do the hosting providers provide so much monthly transfer (400gig+ / month) for accounts that are under $10/mo? Any ideas?

Since i've been hit with some financial hard times, I'm finding myself having to sell a machine I HONESTLY don't want to get rid of, but i'm running out of options. Here's the specs Dell Poweredge 6400 Dual XEON 550Mhz 1GB DDR RAM 8 18GB SCSI Drives (Currently RAID'd to 100GB) CD-ROM Floppy drive Onboard Video, NIC I can install the two NIC's i took out some time ago for anyone. Currently It will only load Gentoo, FreeBSD or Debian (RedHat and others have a problem with the PERC/2 RAID card inside). starting offer is $250.. if anyone wants this, lemme know. What fun stuff have you done recently?

I'm curious what other people are doing in Linux right now for "fun". My current project has been integrating Asterisk (Open source PBX) and MythTV (Open source PVR). I've gotten it so that I can call my house and have it read me what shows are going to be recorded. The inbound line is a soft-phone SIP connection from Vonage. I'm probably going to beef up my phone tree to include other things, and may eventually get some home automation things going through it. What projects has everyone else been doing? -Kyle
