After starting out with RedHat 7.3 and switching to Mandrake I eventually stumbled across Debian... Since then I've become a Debian based distro fan and am currently using ([kx]?u|myth)buntu on various boxes. I've also set up a couple of VMs using ubuntu's JeOS. The boxes currently getting the most use from me include:
- desktop I built around xmas of '07 running kubuntu 8.04/xubuntu 9.04 64bit on an intel e6750 core2 duo and has a nvidia 9600gt with dual monitors.
- mythtv frontend - intel atom 330 almost mini-itx (it's 1cm over the standard) running mythbuntu.
- mythtv backend - my old desktop, an AMD Athlon 64bit 3200+ with a hauppauge pvr-500 dual tuner.
- file & misc server - intel atom 230 almost mini-itx (again, 1cm over standard) running ubuntu-server and providing me a raid5 array over 4 disks.
- laptop - dell inspiron 5100 (it really wants to melt) with ubuntu/icewm.
While my current desktop is set up to dual-boot, the only time Windows sees the time of day is if I need registry settings for Wine.
While I've messed with hardware and networking I can't claim to know much. I'm much better with software and tend to work with PHP, JavaScript, and CSS. No, I'm not a hotscripts kiddie. While I understand the amateur attempts (see Image2Thumbnail 1.0a as my first ever attempt at something useful with PHP), please don't pass them off as professional or as being, "the way things are done". My preference is application development utilizing an MVC framework of some sort (symfony and Zend Framework are my preferred frameworks).
I've also been helping maintain the template files for the PHPEclipse project.
